Most teachers are always on the look out for interesting classroom activities for students. They tend to particularly like ideas that will encourage participation in class discussions and be fun too - although of course, they need to remember that activities chosen need to be helpful with learning too.
Ideal classroom activities also flexible. This allows them to be adapted to different student age groups, different plans, and of course, different school subjects. Additionally, school teachers often work under tight financial restrictions, so activities that do not require investing in expensive equipment are particularly valued.
One activity adopted by many teachers are educational variants of bingo. The game is played using bingo cards containing items appropriate for what is being taught. This could be letters, numbers, words, phrases, foreign language words, names of historical figures, names of places, or even chemical compounds or musical symbols.
Depending on what is being taught, game play can also be varied. You could play a standard game of bingo, except using the special bingo cards. You can also play games where the teacher gives a "clue", such as a math problem or an English word, and the students have to find the matching numerical answer, or foreign language word, etc. Really there are no limits, other than the teacher's imagination.
Of course to play bingo in class, each student (or group of students if working that way) will require a bingo card printed with the types of items that the teacher wants to cover in that lesson. Preparing a whole class worth of bingo cards by hand would not be a good use of class prep time, but fortunately, by using a computer and some bingo card maker software to do this job, it can be done very quickly and easily.
